Hello, I am from Seattle, WA. In my early years, I lived in the North Shore neighborhood of Ballard. I am a graduate of the University of Washington. I have been sketching and painting from an early age. I began painting with watercolor and acrylic paints but later in life, I became a resolute oil painter for 15 years. I would best describe myself as a self-taught oil painter learning from books, classes and workshops. I also love sketching using charcoal, colored pencils and graphite. I am thinking about trying out oil pastels too but so far, I have not experimented with them. Maybe someday soon though.
When I begin work on a painting, it is like I am getting to know a new friend. I study my subject to decide how best to interpret it on canvas. Seeing the different shapes, shadows and light takes dedicated time. There is always some trial and error along the way. Eventually, I know my subject well enough to go forth with confidence. But like getting to know a person, each experience unfolds differently. At times I realized I had not seen something that was there all along. It could be a reflection or a subtle color shift I missed until later in the process. I love this process of discovery. It never gets old.
I am a member of the EMERALD CITY ART COLLECTIVE where we take part in art shows in the Seattle area. Besides art, I love animals, gardening, and travel. I currently live in Kirkland, WA with my husband, Stan.
